Pete Burns

Pete Burns doesn’t look like a bloke you’d want to mess with, but someone decided to take a risk as he was assaulted and robbed on Monday evening during a night out in London's Soho district.

The former Dead Or Alive frontman and husband Michael Simpson were dining at a restaurant in the British capital's West End when a man approached the star for a photograph.

The 49-year-old refused the request, but the unidentified male turned nasty - kicking the singer in the back and tearing at his hair in fury, and when Burns and Simpson went inside the eaterie to call police over the assault, the man ran away with the star's bag.

Burns' manager Walt Utz tells FemaleFirst, "They were sitting outside (restaurant) Balan's when a member of the public kept persisting in trying to take a picture of Pete. When Pete declined, an argument between Pete and the guy started. Pete got up and walked away but the other person ran after him and pulled his hair and kicked him in the back.

"The police were called and while they waited for the police Pete went inside the restaurant. When Michael followed him inside, the person who assaulted Pete stole his bag, which contained bank cards, his mobile phone and keys to his house."

Initial reports suggested Burns and Simpson were arrested following a bust-up after they were both spotted in the back of a police van in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

But the star's spokesperson Utz has set the record straight: "When the police arrived to take all the details they offered to take them back to Pete's address, which is why they were in a police car. There was no argument between Pete Burns and Michael Simpson and no arrest took place. The other guy hasn't been caught, so that is still being investigated."
