Radiohead rocker Thom Yorke has called for bosses of petrol giant BP to face a criminal prosecution over the Gulf of Mexico oil slick.

More than 200,000 gallons of crude oil are spewing into the sea each day after a BP rig ruptured last month (Apr10) off the U.S. coast.

Despite efforts to stem the flow of leaking oil, fears remain that the spill will devastate wildlife if it washes ashore at Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, or Florida, and Yorke - a committed environmental campaigner - is calling for BP bosses to be "held to account" for the possible consequences of the disaster.

In a post on Radiohead's official blog, he writes: "Maaan. Shouldn't BP be held criminally responsible for the oil slick? Shouldn't the heads of BP be held to account? This is not just an accident. This is a terrible crime. Record profits? Nice."
