The Black Eyed Peas make history this week with the longest successive stay at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart ever.

They have held the top spot for 20 consecutive weeks with I Gotta Feeling which is in its eighth week at #1 and Boom Boom Pow which spent 12 weeks in the top spot. The longest consecutive stay for an artist in the Billboard chart’s 51 year history.

Will.i.am said of the massive achievement “With this kind of success your ego wants to take all the credit but your heart reminds your soul that it was your heart that had you slaving and creating in the studio making the music; breaking through comfort zones and tradition. In the fight between heart and ego my heart always wins.”

Fergie added that “Without everyone doing their part, the stars never would have aligned. This was a group effort, thank you to everyone who helped to keep these songs on top,"

Since it’s release in the US eight weeks ago, I Gotta Feeling has sold over 2 million digital downloads with Boom Boom Pow doing over 3.8 million. Boom Boom Pow is now also the #1 track on the Nielsen Soundscan’s Year To Date digital tracks chart for 2009.

The Black Eyed Peas also continue their reign in the UK as their current single I Gotta Feelin' (which reached #1 on the singles chart on two separate occasions) still holds the position as most played track at national radio. Combined sales from the first two single releases is now well over 800,000 copies and their fifth studio album, The E.N.D is back in the top 5 this week.
