Adele looks set to slip into the race for this year’s Christmas Number One, after multiple reports came to light suggesting she’s about to drop a new tribute single for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy. Ed Sheeran is still the favourite to take the top spot with his Beyoncé collaboration on a new version of his song ‘Perfect’, but Adele’s odds at Boyle Sports have been chopped from 16/1 right down to 3/1.

Spokesman for BoyleSports, Lawrence Lyons commented: “We assume Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé’s single is the ‘Perfect’ candidate [to] top the charts this Christmas, but out of nowhere we’re seeing money for Adele who saw her odds plummet, firstly into 3/1 from 16/1 last week.

“Time may be running out now for Adele but we can only conclude that rumours of a tribute single are behind this gamble as the race for Christmas Number One ramps up this week.”

With Ed and Adele battling it out for the top spot, Wham and/or George Michael are also in the running with odds of 7/1, whilst Mariah Carey has odds of 10/1 and this year’s X Factor winners Rak-Su round off the top 5, with odds of 16/1.

Adele has been a big supporter for those who survived the Grenfell fire tragedy, paying tribute to them in a variety of different ways and, back in August, taking child survivors to a private screening of Despicable Me 3. This week, she attended the emotional memorial service for the victims of the blaze, and was seen to be getting emotional during her time there.

She was joined by the likes of Prince William and Prince Harry at the service, as well as the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
