Annie Lennox has announced her new album will be released this year.

The 59-year-old singer will unveil her seventh solo LP entitled 'Nostalgia' in October this year.

Annie Lennox has confirmed that she will release her new album, titled 'Nostalgia', in October 2014

The record will feature a collection of Annie's takes on songs from the 1930s and 1940s, including songs originally made popular by the likes of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Jo Stafford and Louis Armstrong.

Speaking about the album, Annie said: "I was just curious. I thought, 'I wonder what my voice would be like. Would these songs suit my voice?' It was like a little challenge.

"I just sort of got to know them, became friends with them really and had a great deal of joy in the process."

Annie got her inspiration for the new album from watching vintage audio recordings and video performances of music from the 'Great American Songbook'.

She also featured as a musician on many of the tracks alongside her long-time collaborator and co-producer Mike Stevens.

'Nostalgia' will be released on October 27, 2014.
