Azealia Banks has been open about beginning to bleach her skin, despite some of her fans claiming it was 'hypocritical' and going against what she has said in the past.

Calling for better representation for women of colour in the music industry, Banks has been vocal about those who she thinks has appropriated black culture without giving anything back.

Now though the 25-year-old has defended her decision to bleach her skin in a Facebook Live video, explaining: "What's the difference between getting a nose job and changing your skin colour? What's the difference between wearing a hair weave and changing your skin colour?

"Nobody was upset when I was wearing 30-inch weaves and tearing out my edges and doing all that type of s**t like that. You guys loved it."

She also maintained that it wasn't "important to discuss the cultural significance of skin bleaching" any more.

She continued: "As a black person in this world you assimilate. There are things you accept. This has become the norm because it's happening all the time."
