Fleetwood Mac have plans to record a brand new album with Christine McVie.

The British rock group have been penning tracks together and will be heading back into the studio with the 70-year-old singer, who left the band in 1998 and reunited with them again in March last year.

Mick Fleetwood confirmed the news to Maui News and also added that the group - consisting of Mick, Christine, John McVie, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham - will kick off a tour later this year, but he remained tight-lipped about where it will start.

Christine - who was married to bassist John until they divorced in 1976 - initially expressed an interest in reuniting with her bandmates last year after she joined them on stage for their Fleetwood Mac Live shows in London.

She previously said: "I like being with the band, the whole idea of playing music with them. I miss them all."

Meanwhile, the group were forced to cancel their 14-date tour of Australia and New Zealand last year after John was diagnosed with cancer.

However, Christine said at the time that her ex-husband was doing "really good".

She said: "He's having his treatment in LA right now, but they caught it really early so he should be up and running in a couple of months."
