Lorde

Lorde has said she's attracted to confidence and confident artists.

The outspoken singer thinks it's important for people to stand up for what they believe in and is inspired by those who are bold and have a voice in the music industry.

She told Rolling Stone magazine: "I've always been into the idea of confidence. Even my stage name is kind of cocky and grandiose."

Lorde, real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor, has struck up a close friendship with fellow songstress Taylor Swift, 24, who she says is a "real teenage voice" like her.

She said: "There are very few of us. The other teenagers sing other people's songs, which is fine, but it's not an authentic teenage experience."

The 17-year-old singer thinks the music industry is "much less scary" than people think it is and has given her advice to budding songwriters who dream of success.

She said: "If you want your music to be heard ... you can just put stuff on the internet and people can love it and that's cool. You have to go into it with an idea of who you are and what you want to do, and you have to have an idea of the things that you won't do, and the things that you want to aspire to.

"Because if you have clear goals and absolute no's for yourself, then people can figure it out. And then you won't be left like, 'Oh, sh*t, why did I do that..' I don't know, juice commercial."
