Jake Bugg was worried he couldn't top his first album while writing 'Shangri La'.

The singer-and-songwriter wanted to prove himself and so followed up his debut collection with a new set of tracks just over a year after the debut's release in October 2012.

On his reasons for writing 'Shangri La' on the road, he said: "Fear that I couldn't better my first record. I had to prove to myself that I could write songs that people enjoy, and that I can keep getting better. And I'm willing to do what takes to sell records. Whatever's necessary to maintain this."

Jake, 17, has also defended co-writing his tracks with professional songwriters, saying he wanted to learn from them.

Speaking to NME magazine, he added: "That's kind of the way it works now, because labels don't have a lot of money, so they want to be sure they have the best chance they can of making some [hits]. I was very sceptical about it at the time. But then I thought, 'Why not?' I'm only 17, I could probably learn a lot from these guys."
