James Blunt says gay people are his best fans

The 'Bonfire Heart' singer doesn't mind people thinking he is gay because he does not have an issue with other people's sexuality.

He told French magazine Voici: "It doesn't bother me. Maybe it's because I was in the military. I've often joked about it and don't have any problem with people's sexuality.

"Have you noticed that my last video is like a mixture of 'Brokeback Mountain' and 'Top Gun'? Gay people are my number one fans."

He appreciates fame because it means people are listening to his music but it has made him more cautious about putting private matters into his songs because he doesn't want his life to "escape" him.

He said: "Success has made me shy. There are some personal feelings you don't dare express when so many people are listening.

"Your life escapes from you, that's often what happens when artists become too popular. Take Amy Winehouse, Lady Diana or Michael Jackson, their lives were affected because they were in the public eye."

The 'Your Beautiful' hitmaker thinks fame can be "dangerous" because people revel in "falling stars" and scrutinise celebrities' every movements.

He said: "It [fame] can become a gilded cage. An artist is first of all celebrated for his talent, then they get scrutinized for the way they dress, their habits, their friendships, their loves ... That's when it becomes dangerous, even perverse, because the public loves a falling star.
