The 48-year-old country superstar will be honoured with the award during the award at the glitzy ceremony on Wednesday (02.11.16), and will be the third ever recipient after Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift.

The Pinnacle Award was created in 2005, and aims to recognise artists who have achieved global prominence through record sales and performances.

For Kenny, the Pinnacle Award will mark his ninth win at the ceremony, and he can already boast an impressive four gongs for Entertainer of the Year.

Over his expansive career, the 'Come Over' hitmaker has recorded a whopping 16 studio albums and scored 28 chart-topping country songs. His total record sales to date exceed 30 million albums. His new album, 'Cosmic Hallelujah' will be released on Friday (28.10.16) and includes a duet with pop superstar Pink on the track 'Setting The World on Fire'.

The news comes after Kenny - who is considered one of music's greatest touring acts - recently revealed he would not be touring in 2017 after a mammoth 160 shows in 18 months.

He said: "We're going to pull back just a little bit [from the road]. The last two years have been so intense; we've done 160 shows in an 18-month period. So I felt, with the new music, I want the fans to digest it and let it seep into their lives a little bit.

"So next year, we'll do five or six shows, we don't know how many yet, but other than that, we'll let this new music find its way. Then the next year, we'll crank it up again."

The CMA Awards will air live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 2.
