Melanie C this week released the brilliant new music video for her latest single ‘Room For Love’, featuring none other than her fellow Spice girls Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton, as well as fellow artists Natalie Imbruglia and KT Tunstall, and a whole host of fans from across the world. First realising the song was destined to become a big hit during a promotional tour in Brazil earlier this year, Melanie and her acoustic band were stunned after performing an improvised version of ‘Room For Love’ at a fan event, where everybody sang all the words right back to them. It was at that point the idea for her video began conception.
Asking the fans to make their own version of the video, Melanie and her team chose their favourite clips and brought them together with fan footage of her performing the track, along with social media-themed graphics.
The song is taken from Melanie’s new album ‘Version of Me’, and follows the brilliant response to previous single ‘Hold On’. Co-written with Olaniyi Michael Akinkumni, Mo Samuels and Varren Wade, the track is produced by SOS Music and was recorded in both London and Los Angeles.
Though Mel B hasn’t joined in the reunion with her fellow former bandmates, the video will still serve as a reminder of how brilliant of a career the girls had during their time together, and will no doubt reignite the calls for a proper reunion and new Spice Girls tour. Though there was talk of it happening on the 20th anniversary of the group, that has since subsided and even the spin-off group GEM – made up of Geri, Emma and Mel B – looks to have been put on hold for the foreseeable future.
