Miley Cyrus has been announced as the host for the MTV Video Music Awards this year, just two years on from her shocking performance with Robin Thicke where she twerked upon the then-married singer.

Cyrus confirmed via her Twitter account that she'd be taking the gig when the annual music gala airs next month, claiming that "MTV WON'T LET ME PERFORM SO I'M HOSTING THIS YEAR'S VMAs."

Her performance with Thicke became an international scandal, but the singer didn't let things get to her, telling her critics at the time: "You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn't even think about it 'cause that's just me."

This year's MTV Video Music Awards will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 30.
