Beady Eye have cancelled their V Festival appearance as Gem Archer recovers from head trauma.

The rockers were scheduled to play at the event later this month but the guitarist's accident - which saw him fracture his skull after falling down the stairs - has meant they have pulled out of the show.

In a statement released on the band's website, they said: "Beady Eye regret to announce that they are cancelling their performance at V Festival and their remaining scheduled shows and promotional commitments in August due to guitarist Gem Archer suffering severe head trauma after an accident on August 1st.

"The band apologise to fans but under the circumstances feel they can not perform without Gem and want to focus on supporting him throughout his recovery.

"Gem was released from hospital yesterday evening and is recovering at home though remains under observation. "

After spending the last week in hospital, Gem is said to be resting at home after what sources described as a "very serious" accident.

An insider added: "It was a freak accident. Gem was at home with his family when he fell.

"The injury he suffered is very serious and his family were really worried.

"He's had several scans in hospital to ensure there's no long-term damage."
