Moya

Moya

Hot on the heels of her acclaimed debut single ‘Telling Tales,’ 20-year old Brighton-based Moya is back with her Acoustic EP, featuring her version of the Primal Scream classic, ‘I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have.’

When it came to picking the lead cover song, Moya was torn between this and one other, Depeche Mode’s ‘Somebody.’ 'I’d been looking for classic songs that I could put my own stamp on,' says Moya.

'I got it down to my two favourites and it was a close decision, but when we started rehearsing, I felt a real connection to ‘I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have.’ It has a beautiful soul feel that I knew I could run with.'

Originally featured on Primal Scream’s 1989 eponymous second album, ’I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have’ is best known in its remixed form as breakthrough 1991 hit ‘Loaded.’

Moya’s version was recorded at Perry Vale studios, by Pat Collier, who coincidentally also mixed the original song for Primal Scream.

'We normally record at Alaska studios in Waterloo (where Primal Scream also recorded) but they don’t have a grand piano,' says Moya.

'Pat has one at Perry Vale, so invited us there instead. He didn’t even know what we were recording until we were there, so it was a cool twist of fate.'

Showcasing Moya’s songwriting ability, the EP also comes with two original tracks, ‘Heroine’ co-written with David Blair-Oliphant (Never Mind The Buzzcocks) and ‘On My Own’ a co-write with Swedish writer, Alexander Holmgren.

The final track is Moya’s take on John Martyn’s timeless ‘Don’t Want To Know,’ recorded live on stage at The Bedford in Balham, and backed by the guitar of Brother & Bones’ Richard Thomas.

Moya’s debut single, ‘Telling Tales,’ was released late last year, storming onto regional radio stations up and down the country and wowing Youtube and The Box regulars with its astonishingly accomplished underwater video, filmed for nothing in a borrowed swimming pool.

Moya is currently putting the finishing touches to her debut album, due this May, with the official single due in April.
