Eminem Getting Cosy With Bruno

Well with the weather taking a turn for the worst this weekend...boooo..it looks like things might be on the up for some of our favourite rappers in today's rap round up. Freeway gets a new deal with Cash Money, new rapper Drake is allegedly encouraging labels to spend big money in securing his presence on their roster, Eminem is overjoyed he pulled off MTV gag and Chamillionaire confirms that Venom will not be dropping after all.

Freeway Links with Cash Money

Philadelphia rapper Freeway has inked a deal with Cash Money it has been announced.

The Roc-a-fella artist who has an album in the works with Seattle super producer Jake One has secured a home for his Free Money Records imprint through Cash Money.

Freeway has yet to confirm just what projects and artists will be released through his new venture.

Drake Encouraging Labels to Dig Deep

Very few rappers have secured million dollar deals this side of the new millennium, but Toronto rapper Drake has encouraged a bidding war for his highly anticipated debut single.

Rumors circulated last week that the rapper had in fact signed on the dotted line with Sylvia Rhone and Universal Motown, but they were later rebuked by the rapper and his team. However it is known that Universal are not the only label hoping to secure the rapper.

Another option for Drake is under the guidance of Julie Greenwald and Lyor Cohen over at Atlantic Records. His debut album Thank Me Later could also be released independently according to the rapper himself who in an interview with DJ Semtex  from 1Xtra said “When you use it the right way, you can make magic happen.

“I really think it would be legendary, I don't know how possible it is, because there's different things you have to consider like distribution, marketing budget and what not. But we have a pretty strong team so I'ma see if we can make it happen."

Gag puts a smile on Eminem’s Face

Detroit rapper Eminem definitely had the last laugh with the stunt pulled at the MTV Movie Awards this past weekend in Los Angeles.

The rapper who was well aware that he was going to come face to face with the bare butt of Sasha Baron Cohen was very aware of just what was going to happen, having arranged the gag with the actor/comediene himself.

"I'm thrilled that we pulled this off better than we rehearsed it,” Eminem, who has the biggest selling record on the charts again this week, explained in an interview.

Chamillionaire withdraws from Mixtapes

Houston rapper Chamillionaire has opted to shy away from avenue which encouraged him to become a house-hold name.

With hundreds of mixtapes to his credit, the lyricist made a public announcement through his myspace page this week that he will not be putting out anymore mixtapes and that the highly discussed album Venom will not be coming out.

"Fact. No more underground mixtapes after [Mixtape Messiah] part 7," he wrote unmodified. "No jacking beats and putting out full cds. That formula is old. To me. I have done it 100 million times and it just doesn't inspire me anymore. Sorry if it makes you feel a certain way. There are plenty other artists out there doing it that you can choose from...Fact.

“Venom isn't gonna drop. It's not coming out. I'm not dropped. Not depressed. I'm not sad. Just telling you what I'm thinking and what I'm gonna do. No press release about it. No label rep saying it. Straight from the boss' mouth...Past dope concepts will go into my vault. Key locked thrown away. Except for a couple of these that could fit anywhere. The music should fit together and not sound like it's all over the place."

Chamillionaire shot to fame while signed with Swisha House and his first official major released album, The Sound of Revenge, went platinum for him back in 2006.
