JLS - Jukebox

JLS - Jukebox

Jukebox is the third record from boy-band superstars JLS, one that is ultimately run-of-the-mill R&B.

It's disappointing, but what the quartet have created here is a formulatic record that relies heavily on pop and R&B cliches.

Whilst songs like the honest 'Take A Chance On Me' and 'Shy of the Cool' are relative highlights, there's not much to write home about.

Whereas The Wanted show some edge and uniqueness, JLS are constantly relying on the formula perfected by the likes of Backstreet Boys.

It results in a record that, with a couple of differences, feels very dated and bland.

No doubt their fanbase will embrace the likes of 'Go Harder', but we'd have hoped for something a little more ambitious on album number three.

'So Many Girls' is a definite low point on Jukebox - horrible vocals and cringe-worthy lyrics, this almost feels like a parody of the boyband genre.

We'd have expected the genre to progress even a little bit from lines like: "Hey you, sitting over there - looking so good I can't help but stare."

The production does the album a slight disservice - underneath Fred Ball's work 'Innocence' could be a genuinely decent track.

As it stands, JLS have missed the mark with their third album, creating a disappointing, predictable and cliched piece of work.
