Mindless Self Indulgence

Mindless Self Indulgence

I must admit, I’d never heard a song by Mindless Self Indulgence before tonight, the only thing I knew about these kids is that their Bassist was having a baby with her husband Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance.

So needless to say, I was wondering what exactly I was in for as I looked at all the kids clad in neon tutus and covered in UV paint - I mean come on, I knew that wasn’t in favour of Bring Me The Horizon. Yet, from the moment Jimmy Urine leapt onto stage in his metallic pumps, I knew tonight was about these guys.

Opening with what I’m told is one of their most famous hits, Shut Me Up I am instantly mesmerised. I mean I’ve seen good bands before, and I’ve seen bands who put on a good show… but this is a massive cut about the rest.

The band are so enigmatic, you just can’t tear your eyes away from them for one second and they charge around the stage; I feel like I’ve come to watch a musical rather than just a sell-out show. I mean, there are no words to tell you how mind-blowing these guys were.

Jimmy Works It Baby!

Their interaction with the audience was immense, and as Jimmy pulled down his skinny fit jeans to show the hoards of screaming girls his cute little ass, you realised that here, on this night, anything was possible.

Jimmy oozes confidence and sex appeal as items of clothing find their way off his body throughout the night and guitarist Steve, Righ? Is Jimmy’s perfect partner in crime as he plays the ‘darker’ character in the performance to Jimmy’s camp as Christmas exploits.

Peckish Steve, Righ?

Jimmy manages to encapsulate everything a good gig should be in their hour on stage; fair enough, you’d be a bit freaked out if someone like Madonna stuck her microphone down her trousers, get a fan to spank her during one of the songs and bared her ass to all and sundry. But then again, Madonna is just one of the hundreds of singers who take life far too seriously.

The funny thing is, as mental as MSI fans seem to be as they constantly get plucked from the front of the barrier and carted off by medics to ‘get some air’, there is a flimsy table at each end of the massive metal barrier, which no one attempts to move - how British!

Overall, there are no words that can do this band justice; their fusion of drum and bass, dance and rock is second to none, the effort and heart behind each song is breathtaking and one thing is for sure; I’m going back for more.
