Many parents find it a struggle to get children to eat a healthy and nutritionally balanced diet. Preparation of meals can be time consuming, and encouraging little ones to eat their greens can all too often be met with protests. With more parents than ever combining busy working lives with family responsibilities, providing a healthy meal when you are time-poor becomes harder still.

However, No Added Salt has developed the UK’s first range of frozen ready meals for children specifically designed to provide a wholesome, delicious and convenient alternative for children’s dinnertime.  Formulated in accordance with the Caroline Walker Trust guidelines, the meals have been designed to ensure they provide the optimum amount of energy, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrate, fibre, sodium and protein that children require.

The junior range, which is made for children aged five plus, will be available in Tesco stores nationwide from 17 September. Every meal is cooked from scratch using raw ingredients with no additives, flavourings or preservatives.  Vegetables are added to the meals and are cleverly hidden in the sauces or mashed in the potato to ensure the children receive the full nutritional value of the ingredients.

No Added Salt’s meals have been developed by a team of mums in collaboration with leading children’s dietician, Sarah Almond.  The meals are frozen to lock in the nutrition from the ingredients, which have been selected specifically for their nutritional properties.

The food range is the brainchild of three working mums, Donna Tresadern, Kay Shearing and Nikki Da Costa-Smith. As a young mum Donna found weaning her twin girls onto healthy solids a challenge. It wasn’t long before Donna’s mum, Kay, began experimenting in her kitchen where the recipes were devised using immune boosting ingredients.

The meals were a success within her circle of family and friends and the mother and daughter team collaborated with Nikki to launch No Added Salt and share their nutritious meals with other mums and dads.

Donna, Co-Founder of No Added Salt, said: “It is only natural that parents want to provide the best possible diet for their toddlers, however this can be difficult and time-consuming.

"We are delighted to be launching No Added Salt in the freezer section at Tesco stores across the UK. Easily stored in the freezer, the No Added Salt range gives busy mums and dads a convenient and healthy option at dinner time.”

Sarah Almond, Children’s Dietician, said: “The No Added Salt meals have been devised in accordance with the Caroline Walker Trust nutritional guidelines.  For example, the beef has been chosen for its iron content, as iron deficiency in children is the most common nutritional deficiency.

"If a child has low iron status then they are far more likely to pick up infections, so we have worked hard to ensure that each meal is as nutritionally balanced as possible," she added.

The nutritious meals can be popped in either the microwave or oven, providing both convenience and peace of mind. They also come in a split dish, so even your fussy eaters are accommodated for.

The junior range is available in Tesco nationwide from 17 September and you can chose between Sausage and Mash or Spaghetti and Meatballs. Both come in handy portions of 300g to 350g and are the perfect size for small children. Priced at £2.49, No Added Salt’s range offers great value for mealtimes.
