Children are being encouraged to put on their thinking caps to consider four big questions of our time, the answers to which have eluded scientists for many centuries. These are: Do black holes exist?; What shape is the sky?; Why do we dream?; What are numbers?

The challenge to the UK’s junior boffins comes as Del Monte launches Fruit Burst, a new range of fruit juice drinks aimed at 7-13-year-olds.

Good hydration is vital for growing children and there is a wealth of research to show healthy eating and drinking helps them to do better at school

Del Monte plans to publish some of the best answers in the hope that scientists will be led down new paths of investigation.  These big questions are often forgotten by adults, 68 per cent of whom believe them to be solved already.

Del Monte believes that children have the perfect balance of knowledge and imagination to offer a fresh perspective.  There will be prizes awarded for the best answers to the scientific conundrums.

In addition to the “unsolvable” questions, the vibrant Fruit Burst packaging also features a host of puzzles designed to make kids stop and think.  These include brain teasers, optical illusions and thought-provoking questions for youngsters to ponder.

The juice drinks themselves contain vitamins B5, B6 and B12 plus folic acid, a combination which helps combat fatigue in youngsters, so promoting their learning and giving stamina to growing brains.

Frans Van Melis, Vice President Operations at Del Monte, said: “Good hydration is vital for growing children and there is a wealth of research to show healthy eating and drinking helps them to do better at school.

“The added vitamins B and folic acid in Fruit Burst® give an extra boost to help their learning.”

The Del Monte® Fruit Burst range has four delicious flavours to appeal to the target age group: sweet apple and blackcurrant, sour apple and strawberry, cool cherry and luscious lime and sherbet lemon, orange and lime.  All have highly-coloured cartons which proclaim: “Fruit-fuel, it’s not rocket science!”

Fruit Burst® from Del Monte is on the shelves now.
