Today is National Children’s Day- a day to honour the children in our lives. It’s a time to cherish family life and make time for those who matter the most. Here are seven ways to celebrate this day with a baby:

Dedicate the day to your baby: If you’ve made plans with anyone other than your baby- it’s time to cancel them and focus all your energy on your little one. If you are at work- make sure you set aside some time either side of your shift.

Look for local events that cater for babies: Take your baby to messy play, a local market, fair or swimming and mark the day by getting out and about. Hoop is an excellent app for finding things in your area that are age specific and will support the local businesses.

Get creative: If your baby is old enough to sit up and make a messy creation of their own- let them go wild with some baby safe paint and a blank canvas. You can tweet it afterwards and join in with the community of people who are celebrating this day too.

Turn off the tech: If you have a habit of letting your baby watch a bit of TV or videos on your phone- make sure you avoid this today and do anything any everything with your little one that doesn’t involve digital devices like reading, playing or spending time out in the garden in the sunshine.

Think about your baby’s diet: This year’s National Children’s Day is focusing on the issue of childhood obesity- so make sure from today, you form new habits for your baby if they are weaning and you have started to give them titbits of processed foods.

Get together with your friends who have babies: Today is an excuse to have a get together with all your mummy mates and share your tips for healthy, happy babies, to talk about your own childhoods and how this has impacted your own parenting style.
