Rather than sending a date in bed, you could be starting there!

New research out today signals the death of the traditional evening date as two thirds (66 per cent) of UK singles claim they would gladly ditch boozy drawn-out dinner dates for more composed pre-work breakfast dates.

DatingDirect.com polled over 1,000 of its members about modern day dating, revealing that British singles are constantly on the look out for new and unusual dating opportunities in their bid to find love.

While half of all singles (50 per cent) surveyed believe that their personalities are more alive in the morning, 56 per cent also believe they are often a better judge of character first thing. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the alcohol associated with dinner dates often blurs this judgement - 40 per cent of singles admit that alcohol usually influences their decision to arrange a second date with little consideration.

Swapping Champagne and caviar for coffee and corn flakes can also help influence self-confidence in single women too - over three quarters (77 per cent) claim to feel at their most attractive in the morning when their hair and make-up is freshly styled. And men seem to agree - 82 per cent admit they often find women to be at their most appealing first thing.

As a result of this research, DatingDirect will be holding 'Cereal Dates' - breakfast dating events - throughout the UK next week giving singles the chance to speed date over pastries and coffee, all before they've started work.

This series of 'Cereal Dates' is designed to remove the pressure of traditional evening dates. Over half of singles (53 per cent) feel less pressure when out on a date with a limited time period, something that can be difficult to achieve with a full evening meal. Over half (59 per cent) also believe that the first 30 minutes of a date is enough time to decide whether they are attracted to the other person.

For many singles it also relieves the guilt of making excuses to get away from a date early - something that 39 per cent of singles admit to having done in the past.

Lets just hope you don't look like the honey monster first thing in a morning!
