In light of the recent marriage break-up of Kim Kardashian and her partner of 11 months, Kris Humphries, the UK’s leading discount website conducted a study of 2,173 British women in a bid to discover what reasons they would need for getting married and if there was ever more to it than love for each other.

The study, conducted by www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, asked the respondents to the poll the multi-answer question, ‘Which the following would be a reason for you to get married?’ and those taking part could select more than one answer if it applied to them. According to the results, more than third, 34%, stated that they would get married for money.

In a bid to investigate the matter further, the 34% of women who cited that they would marry for money were asked how much money they would require the other person to have before they would marry them.

A quarter, 23%, of these respondents cited that the person would have to have a minimum of £1,000,000 in the bank in order for them to consider marry them.

According to the research, 6% of the women who would marry for money stated that they would marry the person purely for cash if they had more than £5,000,000 in the bank.

When these women were asked why they would marry for money, 41% claimed it was to ensure they and their family would be financial secure into the future, whilst 19% said it was so they could be spoiled and live a life of luxury.

17% of the women asked claimed that they would get married for ‘convenience’, whilst more than a tenth, 12%, said that they would marry a person based solely on their ‘physical appearance’.

Of the respondents asked, a fifth, 19%, admitted that they would get married to cure ‘loneliness’ and a further 22% of the women polled said they would marry a person ‘for companionship’ regardless of if they loved them.

Only two fifths, 42%, of the women asked said that ‘love’ was one of the most important factors to take into account when marrying another person. A further 38% of the respondents stated that ‘trust’ was one of the most important aspect to a marriage.

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said the following, "After the shock separation of reality star Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, we thought it would be interesting to discover what aspects are important to women when getting married.

"It was very surprising to see that a third of women would marry for money as surly this isn’t the most important thing in life to them?

"Although the respondents claimed that they would marry for convenience, companionship and money; I am sure that if it came down to the crunch they wouldn’t say ‘I Do’ purely for those reasons.

"As I am sure it was for Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, love the main reasons to marry; it just doesn’t always work out!"
