A night in watching these four is appealing to a lot of people

It's Saturday night, there's the option of going out with friends, drinks, laughter, fun. But then comes the realisation, you should be spending that money on Christmas presents, it's absolutely freezing outside and there's a few programmes that you wouldn't mind watching on the box.

So what are you going to say to get out of your plans? A surprising 79 per cent of women admit to regularly telling little white lies to avoid a night out.

With the X Factor and Strictly in full swing, plus the dark nights, it seems the prospect of hitting the town doesn't compare to a cosy evening on the sofa for busy women.

According to Magnum ice cream and loungwear retailer, hush, women's desire to get home and close the door on the day increases as the temperature drops - with a quarter of women admitting that cold weather makes them want to stay in and chill out.

The other three-quarters blame their preference for pyjamas over a bottle of Pinot with their mates on hectic work schedules and a desire to watch their favourite TV show.

The poll of 2000 women showed that most use a health-related excuse to duck out of a night out, with almost two thirds inventing a phantom illness or doctor's appointment.
