Orange research shows 1 in 3 singletons have future partner's number already in their phone.

If speed dating, blind dates and dating websites have failed to find the love of your life, try looking through your mobile. Research by Orange shows almost a third (29%) of married people in the UK had their spouse’s number in their phone before they even went on a first date.

Whether it's a work colleague, a long-term friend or a school mate you haven't seen for years, the Orange study reveals a third of us will end up marrying someone in our phone book - even if you've never been out on a date or considered them to be potential marriage material.

A spokesperson from Orange, commented: “We often think about our phonebooks as a lifeline - a way of staying in touch with the people most important to us. This research shows your phone can also be a loveline - so next time you're feeling lonely, scroll through your contacts and take heart, Mr or Mrs Right could well be waiting for your call."

If you’re single and live in the south east, it’s worth taking a closer look in your address book - there’s a two in five chance (38%) you already have the number of your future husband/wife stored in your phone.

So, next time you go to work, take a good look round the office - the most common reason for 'storing but ignoring' your future life partner’s number is because of work. Platonic friends - those you've never been out with before - are the second most common reason for having the number already in your phonebook.

Using social networking sites to get your partner's number is also a factor - over one in ten (13%) got the number of their future spouse after meeting virtually on sites like Facebook, with those in London most likely to meet that way – 28%.
