A new survey has found that more than half of wives and girlfriends will be left disenchanted by their partners’ choice of present this year, saying their best friend could do a better job at choosing what they really want.

As if that wasn't bad enough, an incredible 81 per cent of women say that their partners rarely or never do something special for them at Christmas, such as buying them a beautiful item of clothing.

The survey, commissioned by social shopping site AskHerFriends.com, questioned more than 1,000 women between the ages of 18-50 on their partners’ gift buying performances during their relationships.

Of the women that said they were satisfied with their Christmas presents last year, many conceded that this was only because they had specifically told their partners what they wanted or even helped buy their own presents.

Ben Blomerley, co-founder of AskHerFriends.com, said, “Many women have been getting a poor deal in the gift stakes for such a long time that their expectations are at rock bottom – yet still they still continue to be let down.

“Plus women have admitted that their friends often know better than their husbands or boyfriends when it comes to the perfect present.”

Launched last year, AskHerFriends.com is a unique gift finding website designed to help men choose the perfect present for the women in their lives.

On the site users are asked a few questions about their partners’ tastes and style and then the aggregator finds the most suitable gifts.

They can then create a list of ideas and send it to her friends for feedback, or those in a hurry can choose and purchase the gift there and then.

The site has approximately 300 retail partners, ranging from top stores such as Heal’s, Selfridges and Agent Provocateur to cool boutiques including Two Red Trees and Flights of Nancy.
