For men, this usually includes being a gentleman by opening doors, pulling out chairs and paying the bill.

And for women it includes dressing to the nines, making conversation and blushing when the gentlemen won’t let her pay for the bill.

But it now seems that dating is changing, with new research from VoucherCodes.co.uk showing that Brits are using money-off vouchers to pay for the first date.

One in five people have that they would find it acceptable for their date to use a voucher to pay for their first date, with a massive 80 per cent saying they wouldn’t mind their partner using vouchers on any date.

The question is does that make us cheap or financially savvy?

It appears that savvy is sexy, with many women being attracted to a man who watches his wallet and is good with money.

For example, a third of women said they would go on a second date with a man if he’d used a voucher to pay for the first date.

There used to be a massive stigma surrounding who should pay for dates but now it is often common for couples to go Dutch and split the costs.

With the current economic climate, why shouldn’t it be the norm that we are paying for dates with vouchers and making our money go further?

For those Brits that work two jobs and are paying off student loans, an £80 date is often stretching one step too far, so why not be savvy and make your money go further?

It’s no surprise that the research found that those who are 18-24 are much more likely to use money off vouchers than any other age group.

But it’s also reassuring to know that this trend it becoming much more widely accepted as Britain goes through a recession.

And look at it this way, if you’re using vouchers and saving money, you’re much more likely to be going to better quality restaurants, plus you know that if the relationship progresses your date will be financially stable in the future!
