My figure, my clothes or my hair?

My figure, my clothes or my hair?

It is said that you only get one chance to make a first impression and Premier Inn has found that almost half of people judge others solely on the first time they meet them.

90% of people in their study said that a first impression counts in making their assumption about the person and a quarter of the respondents admit that they are aware of a time when they have made a bad first impression.

According to out biology, men seek women who are curvaceous, therefore have child bearing hips, which denotes good chances of pro creation and this study does not dispute this, with over 50% noticing a woman's figure on first meeting, this is closely followed by their hair (48%) an then what they are wearing (47%). This would all make sense as all of these attributes; particularly the latter accentuate the figure, which is a man’s first focal point when meeting a woman.

Archaically, women are attracted to men if they are successful and can provide for their potential offspring; however these findings show that women are just as preoccupied with appearance as men are, with 63% noticing their build and height first. In the scheme of things other attributes, like their physique are more important in a man than their job (2%), their car (2%) and their relationship status (3%).

Nearly half of Brits have admitted they have made the wrong assumption about someone they have met for their first time, with subsequent meetings making them retract their initial thoughts on the person.

Although a good sense of humour is something that attracts one person to another, if it is slightly quirky this can be used as a reason for not creating a good first impression as is being shy, according to 40% of the people in the study.

A Premier inn spokesperson said: "Although our results show many people can change their minds, they highlight how important it is to make a good first impression – a smile and a sense of humour is key!  We pride ourselves on providing all our guests with excellent customer service and are working with body language expert Judi James to further train our team members on how to create the best first impression, so they can continue to show how friendly and approachable they are to customers."

Body language expert Judi James continues: "The greeting is the core creator of ambience in a hotel, which means the right social behaviour or Attribution Effect is vital! Premier Inn team members utilise all the key skills to ensure the best first impression for their guests from making eye contact, to a subtle tilt of the head to signal attention."
