The wingman is a popular tool in any man’s pulling arsenal and now women are taking a leaf and enlisting the help of their friends to become their wingwoman on a night out.

Shockingly, women would rather have their wingwoman be less attractive than them so that they have a better chance at attracting the hot men.

Lambrini conducted the survey and found that three quarters of women say that they use a wingwoman on their night out to help them break the ice, get a man and keep them safe.

For over half of the women surveyed, their wingwomen had to be ugly so that they would have a better chance at winning attention from the men.

Four out of ten women said that they take their friend along so that they can help them rate men and strike up conversations.

Another major benefit of having a wingwoman is having them to rescue you from a cringing situation.

Forty five per cent of women said they had a secret SOS phrase that meant they wanted to leave quickly, whilst 29 per cent said they would often use going to the bathroom as an excuse to escape.

A third of women admitted asking their wingwoman to send an ‘emergency’ text or use hand signals to communicate the situation.

Embarrassingly, one in seven of us have been caught using these hand signals to get out of a conversation, leaving us red faced!

Lambrini spokesperson, Lorna Tweed, said, “Everyone knows that the modern dating scene can be an absolute minefield and we all need a little support if we’re going to find our Prince Charming.

“Men have been boasting about their wingmen for years, now women have realised it’s a great idea too.

“It’s nice to see women sticking together and helping each other out. Not only does it make dates safer but makes it easier to escape if things aren’t working out.”
