Even if we are single, ladies like to keep the sheets clean, there is nothing nicer that getting into a freshly washed bed for sex or to sleep. Single men clearly don’t have the same sentiments as they only change their sheets once every three months!

Ergoflex found that women change their sheets on average every fortnight compared to single men who only feel the need to do it every three months. When Brits are in couples, the chief bed changers- women (81%) carry on this trend changing the sheets every two weeks.

Angela said:

‘I knew a couple who only changed their sheets once every five weeks, its disgusting for one person to so this, but two? It doesn’t bear thinking about! ‘

55% of the guilty party were aged 18-25 encompassing the university crowd. Those who were a little cleaner conscious, and changed their bed sheets weekly were aged between 35-50 and were predominantly women.

Lucie:

‘My roommate at university used to spray his bed with Febreeze to get rid of the sweat and smoke smell because he was too lazy to wash it!’

Amongst the reasons for not changing their sheets 49% said that it was an acceptable gap to leave their beds for this long without being changed, 22% believed that their beds didn’t need changing and 19% simply didn’t care.

Despite not doing anything about it, 17% of men taking part claimed that their partner had been put off by the state of their bed sheets, compared to only 2% of women. How off-putting would you find it if your new man had dinner stains and ahem, other stains, all over his bed sheets? Would it put you off sleeping with him?

Dirty bed sheets can act as a window into the future of your relationships. It may indicate that he doesn’t keep himself clean, that he certainly wont do it when you are a couple and that he is probably not very house-proud, so you will be entering into a future of mess.

When it came to guests staying over, only 32% changed the sheets after a visits and 65% left the sheets on after a few couples had slept in them.

Men tend to only own 1 set of bed sheets compared to women who own an average of three.

Jed MacEwan, Managing Director of Ergoflex UK, commented on the findings:

“We were quite alarmed at the apparent lack of basic hygiene from some respondents. Unclean bed sheets contain the tens of thousands of dead skin cells that we shed every night, and by going months without cleaning them you’re risking some distinctly unpleasant consequences every time you go to bed. Dust mites would find a perfect habitat in such unhygienic bed sheets, and it's well documented that they can cause allergic flare-ups, asthma, rhinitis and other physical reactions. Also, by allowing your bed to become so unclean you’re almost asking for a bed bug infestation, which could prove to be a high price to pay for simply not washing your sheets more regularly.”

The girls in the office were unanimous in saying that they would not date a man who washes his sheets this often!
