Britain's Duchess of Cambridge has been taking flying lessons.

The 31-year-old royal - who was known as Kate Middleton before she married Prince William in 2011 - has taken up a new hobby in aircraft flying after taking inspiration from her grandfather.

Speaking to a well-wisher yesterday (07.11.13), she said: "My grandfather flew planes. I've had a few lessons on fixed wing."

William and Catherine left their three-and-a-half-month-old son Prince George at home in Kensington Palace, London, with Nanny Webb as they helped to promote the Royal British Legion's effort to raise £1 million for forces charities in a single day.

Catherine told 'EastEnders' actress Barbara Windsor: "He's half asleep!"

Before William added: "He's behaving himself this morning."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shocked commuters when they visited High Street Kensington station to boost poppy sales yesterday (07.11.13).

Meanwhile, Prince Philip joined Prince Harry at Westminster Abbey, London, for their first royal engagement together as they paid their respects to the British soldiers who died in the First and Second World Wars.

The royals spent an hour meeting war veterans as they were led around the memorial plot of fallen soldiers, sailors and airmen, before taking part in a two-minute silence of remembrance.

Remembrance Sunday will be held on November 10.
