Prince Charles is having "fun" as a new grandfather.
The heir to the British throne was overjoyed when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to Prince George earlier this week, and is already enjoying his new role as grandfather.
During a trip to visit Kemble railway station in Gloucestershire, South West England, yesterday (25.07.13) Charles opened a garden and was in a jovial mood as he talked with members of the public about his new role.
George Austin, nine, met the prince and asked him about his namesake.
He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I was asking him about the baby and he said it was great meeting him at the hospital.
"He said it was really fun being a grandfather. I was really hoping the baby would be called George, it is a great name."
George and his sister Lucinda, four, were brought to the station by their grandparents Sue and Peter Skinner, and Sue said she is sure Charles will be a good grandparent.
She said: "It is marvellous that the baby has been born, I think he will make the most fantastic grandfather.
"He was brilliant with [my] two [grandchildren]. Being a grandparent is very special."
Charles - who unveiled a plaque at the gardens, worked on by students at the Royal Agricultural University, of which he has been president for 25 years - was also presented with cards addressed to himself and wife Camilla by Oliver Horne, four, and his brother Daniel, 22 months.
The card read: "To HRH the Prince of Wales and HRH the Duchess of Cornwall. Congratulations on becoming grandparents on the birth of Prince George of Cambridge.
"Love, Oliver Horne, four, Daniel Horne, one."
