Catherine Middleton and Prince George

Britain's Prince George is likely to head out on his first official royal tour next year.

The five-month-old son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is expected to undertake the first engagement in April.

Kensington Palace yesterday (19.12.13) officially confirmed that the royals will embark on a lengthy visit to Australia and New Zealand in the spring on behalf of the Queen.

Aides have told the Daily Mail newspaper that it is "strongly anticipated" that Prince George will accompany his parents.

A source said: "Clearly it is hoped and planned that Prince George will accompany them but being new parents and the trip being several months away yet, a final decision will be made nearer the time."

Prince William currently employees his former nanny , Jessie Webb, to care for his and Catherine's son on a part-time basis.

It is not yet known whether or not Miss Webb, 71, will travel with them on the gruelling three-week-long trip.

William's late monther, Princess Diana, broke tradition when she insisted taking nine-month-old William to Australia and New Zealand in 1983, on a six-week stint.

Prince George will be nearly nine-months-old when the latest trip comes around.
