Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George

Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge want Carole Middleton to join them on their tour of Australia.

The royal couple are hoping Duchess Catherine's mother will help look after their four-month-old son Prince George during the action packed trip Down Under next year.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "They don't want just anyone helping out in Australia and think Carole would be perfect.

"William has always admired the close relationship between [Catherine's parents] Carole and Michael and how they've raised their children in such a happy environment. That's what he wants for George, so he and Kate are enlisting their help whenever they can."

William's former nanny Jessie Webb, 71, had been working with the pair part-time, but is unable to join them in Australia.

Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana left their nine-month-old son William with Jessie while they toured Australia and New Zealand in 1983, but the duke and duchess are keen to have their offspring close by them at all times.

Since giving birth to George in July, Catherine - who was known as Kate Middleton before she married William in 2011 - has taken part in a total of nine royal engagements, but none of them have required her to be away from her baby for too long.

Meanwhile, William is also planning a solo tour to Kenya late next year after the family return from their trip to Australia.
