The 65-year-old royal - the daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip - stopped by the family-friendly club in the West Midlands earlier this week to officially open a new landing area built by members and meet the founders of the club.

The Princess arrived at Himley Hall via her private jet before she was whisked off to the lakeside by car where marquees had been set up ahead of her royal arrival.

Anne chatted away to some of the members of the club before she congratulated them for recently being named one of the top five finalists in the Royal Yachting Association's prestigious Club of the Year awards.

During her visit she also unveiled a plague to mark the occasions and scribbled her signature in the visitors book.

Before she left, the Princess was asked to cut a cake baked by Becky Harding, who has been a member of the club for 14 years, made especially for the occasion.

But the royal didn't seem too keen to cut the calorific treat.

She asked: "Has everybody seen this? It is absolutely wonderful. It is gross vandalism to cut it."

Speaking to the Express and Star newspaper, Becky, 28, said of the Princess' praise: "It was absolutely incredible and so exciting. I'm so pleased she liked the cake."
