The titles for the third season of 'American Horror Story' have been released, and show creator Ryan Murphy has said they hold clues about what the series has in store for us the third time around.

The show - which is unique in its way of creating a new plot each season but keeping some of the same cast - has seen major success with its first two offerings, 'Murder House' and 'Asylum'.

Fan-favourite Jessica Lange takes up her third major role as

Fiona - a descendant of Salem ancestors and one of the most powerful witches around, who, upon hearing of the killing of a young witch near New Orleans, returns to the city to reunite with her daughter Cordelia (AHS alumna Sarah Paulson), the headmistress at Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. (Basically, witch school).

Tim Minear, executive producer on the show has teased: “Let’s say that Miss Robichaux’s Academy is set upon by multiple outside adversaries.

“There’s sort of two formidable clans of witches in New Orleans,” he continues.

“The voodoo witches were there first, and the Salem witches fled to the South from the persecution of the North, and these two factions are ancient enemies.”

In what promises to be an exciting season, 'Coven' continues the pattern set by its predecessors and will skip between different time periods throughout.

Keep an eye out for what are sure to be stellar performances from Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett and Patti LuPone.

Episode one, 'Bitchcraft' airs October 9 in America and just under three weeks later in the UK on October 29 on Fox, 10pm.
