The show follows "brilliant but flawed scientists and their families in a remote location in Los Alamos, New Mexico, as they attempt to coexist in a world where secrets and lies infiltrate every aspect of their lives. Their story is one about people, secrets, war, and a win-at-all-costs mentality that affects everyone and everything."

In the US, the show launched in July 2014 and has received some incredible feedback, being noted by Rolling Stone as the series to turn one of WWII's most famous tales "into stylish tense drama - a nowhere desert town full of geeks on a mission, driven by fear and paranoia."

Who stars in the show?

Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards), Michael Chernus (Orange is the New Black), Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense), John Benjamin Hickey (The Big C), Ashley Zukerman (Rush) and Harry Lloyd (The Theory of Everything) all take big roles in the series.

Daniel Stern, Katja Herbers, Christopher Denham, Alexia Fast and Eddie Shin all also star.

What can you tell me about the characters?

John Benjamin Hickey is Frank Winter

Frank Winter is the brilliant, misunderstood American genius picked to help lead the Manhattan Project. Those who question his sanity may just be right. Impolitic and brash, Frank's obsessively dedicated to building the bomb, and will sacrifice more than he ever imagined to win the war-including his family and himself.

Olivia Williams is Liza Winter

Liza Winter is the strong-willed, clear-eyed Ph.D. who puts her own flourishing scientific career on hold to support the war effort and her husband. At Los Alamos, scientists treat her like a housewife and housewives treat her like an outcast. Stifled by the desert, unable to do botany work and frustrated by the connection she and her husband are quickly losing, old demons begin to reemerge, revealing once buried dark secrets.

Ashley Zukerman is Charlie Isaacs

Charlie Isaacs is a brilliant but untested wunderkind who uproots his wife and son to move from the East Coast to Los Alamos to work on the Manhattan Project.

Rachel Brosnahan is Abby Isaacs

Abby is a privileged girl from the Boston suburbs whose life is transformed forever when she agrees on a whim to go with her husband to the middle of nowhere. In the New Mexico desert, she'll discover things about herself she never knew and wield power that surprises everyone around her, especially her husband.

Daniel Stern is Glen Babbit

Glen Babbit is the dry-witted, shrewd physicist who acts as the political liaison for his overworked but brilliant team. Older, wiser, and funnier than the young physicists he stewards, Glen always finds a way to work within the oppressive rules of Los Alamos, even as he whispers in the ear of Frank Winter-his former student-and encourages him to break them.

Harry Lloyd is Paul Crosley

Paul Crosley is a polished, privileged and baldly ambitious Brit who joins the Manhattan Project because he sees tremendous potential for his career. Stuck in what he perceives to be an underfunded and undermanned division at Los Alamos, he will take every opportunity for upward mobility, even at the expense of the man who brought him to the desert in the first place. Only when he comes face-to-face with the realities of the war will his perspective begin to change.

Katja Herbers is Helen Prins

One of the few female physicists assigned to the Manhattan Project, Helen Prins is tough, witty and bright-and a mystery to her male colleagues.

Michael Chernus is Louis 'Fritz' Fedowitz

Fritz is one of the brilliant scientists on Frank Winter's team.

Christopher Denham is Jim Meeks

Principled, fastidious and deeply loyal, Jim Meeks is one of the brainy young physicists working under Frank Winter to develop the world's first atomic bomb.

Alexia Fast is Callie Winter

Callie Winter is the rebellious 16-year-old daughter of Frank and Liza Winter.

Eddie Shin is Sid Liao

Sid Liao is one of the bright scientists working on the Manhattan Project under Frank Winter.
