Christina Hendricks' husband has jumped to Mad Men star's defense after her weight was criticized by a fashion blogger following her recent appearance at the Golden Globes - insisting the catty critic distorted the image.

Busty redhead Hendricks showed off her curves in a champagne-colored ruffled gown on the red carpet of the awards ceremony earlier this month (Jan10).

However, New York Times blogger Cathy Horyn didn't appreciate the lavish design, writing, "You don't put a big girl in a big dress. That's rule number one."

Hendricks' husband, actor Geoffrey Arend, was left fuming by the comments - and only calmed down after seeing messages of support for his wife posted by readers of the blog.

He tells People.com, "I was just upset about the whole Golden Globes dress thing. I thought she looked so gorgeous. And that New York Times blogger saying that" It’s so ridiculous.

"What was nice was seeing the entire internet come after that blogger. That was really cool. It was the first time I saw just a solid block of ‘You’re crazy! What’s wrong with you? You should be ashamed of yourself!’ And honestly, the Gray Lady (New York Times' nickname) should be ashamed of themselves to print a picture like that, that they widened!"

Horyn later apologized after admitting a technical mistake had led to the snap being "slightly distorted inadvertently."

Meanwhile in more from the world of Mad Men actor Bryan Batt has been axed from hit U.S. TV series MAD MEN.

Batt has become known for his role as art director Salvatore Romano on the 1960s-set drama, which premiered in 2007.

He recently raised his concerns about losing his job after his TV character was fired - and his worst fears have come true.

TV bosses have now confirmed he won't be joining the rest of the cast when the show returns for its fourth season, but insist there is no bad blood between the two parties.

Series creator Matthew Weiner explains, "Losing Bryan was a tough moment for the show, but that's where we are.

"I know how people felt about Bryan. I obviously love working with him, and he has been an indelible character since the pilot. But I felt it was an expression of the times that he couldn't work there anymore."
