The soap veteran's character Ian Beale was seen being arrested last week, and it has now been revealed the police officer character who placed his hands on the cocky councillor was in fact portrayed by the actor's own boy, Sam Woodyatt.

A tweet on 'EastEnders' fan site Walford East read: "Before some of you complain about social distancing, the police officer who cuffed and escorted Ian Beale in tonight's #EastEnders is Adam Woodyatt's son, Sam."

Friday's (04.12.20) 'EastEnders' episode ended in a dramatic cliff-hanger as Ian was shown poleaxed in the Queen Vic after being battered by a mystery resident.

Several of the suspects were shown with blood on them, or washing their hands to keep viewers guessing.

Chippy chief Ian has riled up a number of his Walford neighbours in recent weeks, including Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White), Max Branning (Jake Wood), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), and Stuart (Ricky Champ) and Rainie Highway (Tanya Franks).

What's more, he has annoyed several family members of late, including his sons, Peter (Dayle Hudson) and Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell), as well as his half-brother Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden).

Ian has also irritated his own mum Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylford) in recent months after remortgaging her cafe and then having the cheek to ask her to make the first repayment because he is too strapped for cash - but she isn't one of the soap's official suspects.

The Walford businessman has an on-going feud with Dotty Cotton (Milly Zero) because she is aware he was responsible for poor Denny Rickman's (Bleu Landau) death in February, and he could also incur Phil Mitchell's (Steve McFadden) wrath if he finds out it was Ian who grassed to the police about his and Kat Slater's (Jessie Wallace) dodgy classic cars job last month.
