The 27-year-old medic - who is originally from Carmarthen, Wales - has opened up on his time on the ITV2 dating show and he says looking for romance in the Majorca villa was more challenging then working on the frontline at Lewisham Hospital's A&E department.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph newspaper, he said: "Working in A&E, I dealt with high pressure situations. But 'Love Island' was so far out of my comfort zone. At the start, my confidence was broken down and I had to find the strength to come back from that, and you know, when you have to get dressed as a fireman and go down on a pole..."

Alex was able to secure the time off his job to appear on the show because he worked at the University Hospital Lewisham in South East London on a zero hours contract, and bosses agreed to leave his position open so he could come back to it.

Despite being coupled up with Alexandra Cane, 27, Alex broke off their short romance before the final because he didn't want to "feel fake" as he just didn't have strong feelings for her and he is proud that he was honest on the show.

Speaking about makeup artist Alexandra, he said: "I was 100 per cent honest, but I'm human and I don't always do the right thing. I could have stayed with Alexandra and got to the final, but that would have felt fake."

Alex has now signed up to be the guest health editor on ITV's 'Good Morning Britain' and he can't wait to get started.

Confirming his involvement on 'GMB' earlier on Friday (24.08.18), Alex said: "Next week Dr. Hilary is away, the fantastic Dr. Hilary, so I'm very excited to say that I'm going to be stepping into his very big shoes for the week, and doing my very best. I'm really excited!"
