The former air hostess - who had her heart broken by Curtis Pritchard on this year's show - revealed Laura, 34, was the first person to ask her for a selfie after she left the villa and she believes she will be a great replacement for Caroline Flack.

Amy said: "Laura was the first person I met when I came out the villa.

"It was weird, we were in the airport lounge in Majorca waiting to go home and she came in with sunglasses on and a dark coat and I kept looking at her thinking 'I know that girl' and she came over to me and I realised it was her.

"She said, 'You made me cry last night!' She asked me for a selfie and I thought Yeah, OK - nobody had ever asked me for a picture at this point!

"The first picture I was ever asked for was by Laura Whitmore. She loves the show, so I think she will be a really good fit and her and [Laura's boyfriend] Iain Stirling working together will be fun."

Amy also sent her support to ousted presenter Caroline, 40, who quit after she was arrested for assault following a row with her boyfriend Lewis Burton, 27.

She said: "I really hope Caroline is OK. I have a lot of respect for her as a presenter and a person."

After it was announced on Friday (20.12.19) that Laura would be taking over the role, Caroline broke her silence on social media to thank fans for their "continuous support" in this "really rough time".

She wrote on her Instagram story: "I'm glad it's Laura .. she loves the show as much as I do ... again.. thank you for you continuous messages of support .. it's a really rough time ... but I'm doing all can to keep my head above the water and sort this all out ... (sic)"

Laura will begin her duties as host when the programme airs its first-ever winter edition, which will begin on January 12th, 2020.
