Angela Rippon is planning to mark her 80th birthday with a ‘crazy’ three days of partying in Las Vegas

The veteran newsreader wowed audiences with her age-defying stint on the BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ last year and has now declared she has no plans for slowing down when she becomes an octogenarian in October.

She told Platinum magazine about her plans for a birthday blow out in Vegas: “I’m still thinking about how to celebrate my 80th this October. I had a big party when I was 60 and I said that would be the last of my parties.

“When I was 70 I took myself off alone to Oman and stayed in a beautiful hotel in Muscat.”

When she mentioned the idea of a trip to Vegas trip for her 80th, six of Angela’s friends said they would be up for the holiday.

Angela added: “At my age I should be allowed the latitude to do what I like and if I want to spend three crazy days in Las Vegas that’s what I’ll do.

“In my head I’ve never grown up.

“I may not be quite as strong as I was in my 40s or 50s but I am still flexible and the dancing has made me stronger.”

In August 2023, it was announced Angela would be taking part in the 21st series of ‘Strictly’, more than 30 years after she hosting the original version of the show, ‘Come Dancing’.

She turned 79 while participating in the series, and is the oldest contestant in the show’s history.

Angela, who danced with ballroom professional Kai Waddington, 34, and was the eighth celebrity voted off the show’s 21st run, said she had at least one cryotherapy ice bath a week as well as a deep tissue massage to maintain her body for the competition.

She revealed while in the contest: “I don’t want people to concentrate on my age, it shouldn’t be a factor in what I’m doing.

“If it’s something that encourages people to think more positively about themselves as they get older, then I think that’s probably a good thing, but personally in my head, I’ve been 30 for the last 40 years.

“It’s not something that really concerns me.”
