The 43-year-old actress revealed the hit comedy-drama has begun filming a second series by sharing a snap of herself holding a clapperboard, confirming the first take was filmed on March 29.

She wrote on Twitter: "#backtolife is coming BACK .. Delighted to finally get going on season 2!! And spoiler alert.. MIRI HAS FOUND HER OLD CRIMPER !! (sic)"

The BBC Three show follows Miri Matteson - played by Daisy - as she returns to her hometown in Kent after spending the last 18 years in prison.

Although she wants to move on from her past and build a new life, her neighbours make it difficult for her, having not forgotten what happened all those years ago.

The show also stars Adeel Akhtar as Billy, Geraldine James as Miri’s mum Caroline, Christine Bottomley as Mandy, Jo Martin as Miri’s parole officer Janice, Richard Durden as Miri’s dad Oscar, Jamie Michie as Dom and Juliet Cowan as Tina.

The second series will see the cast return with the addition of Meera Syal and Adrian Edmondson.

Daisy and her co-writer Laura Solon are "thrilled" to be able to develop a second series of their show after it received critical acclaim.

Daisy said: "Laura [Solon] and I are thrilled to finally start shooting the second series of 'Back to Life'. We were blown away by the reception to the first series, so it was both nerve wracking and exciting to write season two ! We can’t wait for you all to see the next chapter…"

Shane Allen, the director of comedy commissioning at the BBC, added: "The clever and twisted storytelling delves even deeper in this propulsive mystery peppered with playful black humour. This is a golden age for UK comedy talent to reach audiences across the world with the BBC kick-starting the journey."
