Bear Grylls has admitted he'd love to make a "teenage" version of The Island with Bear Grylls.

The adventurer revealed that after introducing the female island this year, he wants to take the show a step further by introducing new versions which will see different kinds of groups of strangers stranded on a deserted island, fending for themselves.

Asked what made him decide to make a women's version of the show this year, he said: "I've always had ambitions to broaden this out and really sort of expand this and doing a woman's version was a totally natural step to do. There are a lot of other things I'd like to do with it that I think would be really interesting.

"Whether you do a teenage version ... I think people want to know how these people or that group would cope under pressure. So the male one was obviously very interesting but then we got all those accusations of, 'You're sexist because you haven't done a women's version', which when I read at the time I thought, that's good because that's what I really want to do."

Although the 'Man vs. Wild' presenter is keen to keep making and updating the Channel 4 show, he seemed reluctant to put both men and women on the same island.

Asked if there were any plans for a mixed series, he said: "I think that would be a season eight, I think we've still got a lot to explore before we get to that."

'The Island with Bear Grylls' continues tonight (09.04.15) at 9pm on Channel 4.
