The 34-year-old former actor played the title role in the CITV series 'Bernard's Watch' - which followed the adventures of a schoolboy who had a magical watch with the ability to stop time - but even though he doesn't get recognized anymore, admitted that people always find out about his childhood fame.

He told Metro.co.uk: "Everyone always ends up finding out I was Bernard from 'Bernard’s Watch', because someone knows someone, or someone will search my name for another reason and it will come up. I never tell anyone or say, 'By the way, did you know I was Bernard?' but people tend to find out.

"The days of me actually getting recognised are long gone, maybe still at university a little bit but really the three or four years after it was on TV, it stopped a little bit."

David - who now works as a GP - filmed five series of 'Bernard's Watch' and the show was later revived as 'Bernard' with another child actor alongside late 'Emmerdale' actress Kay Purcell in the early 2000s.

But David insisted that while in the days of his fame, he used to get "really shy and embarrassed" when recognised in public, he has now embraced the experience for what it was and thinks that famous people have it "much harder" these days since the onset of social media.

He said: "I can’t speak highly enough of the experience, I used to hate if I was out and being recognised, I used to get really shy and embarrassed about it, but now I think it’s much harder in terms of the stuff people have to deal with, like social media and the instant response."
