The Culture Club frontman took part in the most recent series of the show - which was won by Jill Scott - and though he doesn't regret being involved, he's questioned the "slightly one-dimentional" way he was depicted, suggesting programme bosses didn't give a full account of what was happening in camp.

Speaking to Jackie Brambles on Greatest Hits Radio, he said: "I don’t regret doing it, but I don’t necessarily understand the show. I feel like what went on in there wasn’t shown [on screen].

"We had such a laugh and there were some amazing conversations, a lot of intimacy but there was quite a limited narrative that went out. I mean you can’t spend 24 hours with someone and not have a decent conversation - I didn’t just talk about mushrooms!

"I’m not a one-dimensional human being and there was a slightly one-dimensional portrayal."

The 61-year-old singer - who was the fourth person to be voted out of camp - is amazed at how many people have told him he "should have won" since the series ended.

He added: "Having come out of the jungle the amount of people that have come up to me and said I should have won is hilarious.

"I’m like, 'Why didn’t you vote for me then?!' "

George previously admitted he threatened to quit the show four times and is still surprised he didn't "do a Gemma Collins" - referring to the reality star who left the show in 2014 after just a few days in camp - and walk out because he got so frustrated.

He admitted: “I am a bit of a stomper-outer, I spent the whole of the 80s saying I was going to leave Culture Club. My manager calls it my marching, when I start going, ‘That’s it I’m leaving’.

“So I was amazed how I was able to stop myself from doing a Gemma Collins. I can remember watching her quit and thinking, ‘That could be me’.

“The thing is, the jungle is designed to drive you crazy and it works, because everything in there is impossible. So there were times when I said, ‘If this isn’t beneficial to the show, I’m not doing it’."
