The ‘Z Cars’ actor, 87, added he thinks female apes find him “sexy” during a talk about his film and TV career.

Speaking at the Rose Theatre in Kingston, south-west London, he said: “Female gorillas find me sexy. There used to be one in Surrey, a big bull gorilla called Gurgis, who was about 48 stone and I used to wrestle him. I used to make him laugh a lot.

“Sometimes I used to pretend Gurgis was hurting me and all the female gorillas used to come running. I was only acting.

“The female gorillas used to sit with me.

“You had to empty your pockets as before you know it they’ve got your glasses and are wearing them.

“But females gorillas always found me sexy. They used to try and grab you and they know how to unzip.

“The universal word to tell them to stop is ‘Ah, ah’, like a warning.”

Brian also told his fans about the death of his actress wife Hildegarde Neil, who passed away last September at 84.

He said: “She was a great Cleopatra with Charlton Heston – and in the movie ‘The Man Who Haunted Himself’, with Roger Moore.

“She was very beautiful and lovely, and we were married for 45 years. She passed away peacefully.

“She had pneumonia about two years ago and she got rid of that. She got cancer and got rid of that. Then she got Covid and she got rid of that.

“She fought and fought and fought but she passed way.

“I have always adored women. I have learned so much from women.

“It is lovely to see ladies everywhere. It is wonderful, they are so brave and I love women enormously.

“And I am very grateful for all they have taught me in my life.”
