The former cobbles star - who played serial killer Richard Hillman from 2001 to 2003 - recently returned to the ITV show's set as part of a spooky tour, and admitted the evil character still follows him around wherever he goes.

He told the Daily Star newspaper: "It's wonderful to still get recognised after all these years.

"I was at an airport in Majorca and this guy just walks past and says 'murderer' under his breath.

"There will be others who will shout across the street or those who are genuinely taken aback when they realise it's the Street's serial killer Richard Hillman on their train or in the same restaurant as them. It always makes me laugh."

While he can see the positives of fame, Brian conceded that the pressures of being in the public eye can be a lot to handle.

He added: "It was crazy. I couldn't go anywhere. Even for me, as a mature actor, I found it very difficult to cope."

On Saturday (26.10.19), the 72-year-old star took part in a one-off special on the 'Corrie' set, featuring trick-or-treating, face painting, a walking tour of scary stories from the show's past - which has also featured the likes of murderer Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre) over the years - and the chance to see the set's scary makeover.

During Richard's reign of terror, the character killed the likes of Maxine Peacock (Tracy Shaw) and on screen ex-wife Patricia Hillman (Annabelle Apsion).

Brian's alter-ego was last seen on screen when he was drowned after driving the Platt family - which included Gail (Helen Worth), Gail, David (Jack P. Shepherd), and Sarah (Tina O'Brien) - into the canal.
