Production on the show -  which is set to see the return of some of the most-loved stars in the programme's history - was halted last month after three crew members tested positive for coronavirus, but the stars look set to take to the stage for filming on December 7th at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.

An insider said: "'Britain’s Got Talent' is back on track and preparations for the Christmas special are well under way.

"The wellbeing of the crew and stars is the main concern for everyone but it’s great they can get the show moving again.

"Currently, filming is pencilled in for December 7 and the stars will be taking to the stage at the Hammersmith Apollo."

The special episode - which will feature judges Amanda Holden, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Ashley Banjo, who is standing in for Simon Cowell as he recovers from a broken back - is expected to be "unlike anything anyone has ever seen before".

The insider added to The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: "The Christmas special is going to be action-packed and unlike anything anyone has ever seen before."

Last month, a spokeswoman for the show confirmed filming had been paused.

She said: "As a result of a positive Covid-19 result received yesterday we have implemented our protocols and a number of crew members are self-isolating at home.

"As a result, we are unable to continue filming our 'BGT' Christmas special today and have taken the decision to postpone.

"The safety of all those involved in the show is our number one priority and we follow extensive Covid-19 related procedures to adhere to all government guidelines."
