Maya is believed to be taking over from Laura Whitmore as the presenter of the ITV2 dating show after the Irish star stepped down over the summer and she will reportedly make her debut hosting the winter version which will be filmed in South Africa early next year - and former winner Cara is adamant Maya is exactly what the show needs.

She told The Sun: "I'm totally buzzing for Maya to take over. I'm going to have to start watching it again now ... She's got so much personality. 'Love Island' is going to be epic this winter. I can't wait."

Although Maya's appointment has yet to be confirmed by ITV, she's said to be in the final stages of finalising her contract.

A source previously told The Sun: "Maya was ITV's dream option. She is fun, beautiful and a brilliant presenter."

Laura announced in August she won't be returning to 'Love Island'.

The star - who is marred to the show's narrator Iain Sterling - said in a statement: "Some news! I won't be hosting the next series of 'Love Island'.

"There are certain elements of the show I've found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects. I wish it was still possible but know you'll be in safe hands."

Laura initially took over hosting duties to fill in for previous presenter Caroline Flack and she later took on the role full time in the aftermath of her pal's death in 2020.

She added: "I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline."
